Introducing Swamp Circus Theatre

Formed by a collective of acrobats and dancers in a disused steel works in Sheffield in 1986, Swamp Circus Theatre is an all human circus theatre with an environmentally flavoured artistic direction, a commitment to arts in the community and a taste for adventure!

Swamp has now performed and co-ordinated projects widely in the UK, Europe and beyond. Our work is characterised by a unique blend of innovative high-energy circus theatre, live music and ecological themes. Projects range from community-centred workshops and residencies to world-class touring Big-Top Extravaganzas.

Alongside, and complementing its circus productions, Swamp runs workshops for wide cross-sections of the public, teaching basic circus skills and promoting participants' physical awareness, building their confidence and enhancing their quality of life. Workshops include introduction to circus skills, acrobatics, acrobalance masterclass, mime and movement, clown and physical comedy, trapeze and rope techniques, juggling, make-up and face-painting.

Swamp believes that theatre is a unique forum for debate and a catalyst for change. The comedy, spirit and fun of circus enables complicated debates to be made accessible and ordinary people to have a voice in difficult issues. Swamp Circus Theatre embraces everyone, regardless of their differences.
