Community Circus Projects
We have been running successful community
circus projects in South Yorkshire since 1986. These have been primarily
focussed on benefiting communities...
Performance
East 1
Following the success of the first stage of their Performance East community
circus project 2004/5 Swamp Circus announce phase 2, and this time we
plan to make it even better.
In
2004/5 The first stage of Performance East our work benefited communities
of Tinsley and Rotherham working in partnership with Connexions Youth
Service (Darnall and Tinsley), Tinsley Junior School, Brinsworth Comprehensive
School, Hinde House Secondary School, Active Communities Darnall (Sheffield
City Council), Tinsley Forum and the Tinsley Tree Project.
Specific
feedback from these groups included:
-
A
few of the girls that are lacking self confidence, really got involved,
so that was fab building on their self confidence Shaida
Karim, Youth Worker
-
"Through
learning the routine the children were able to extend their physical
skills and learn to manage their physical behaviour in a controlled
manner
.It would be hoped that Swamp Circus Trust could do work
with this group in the future. Hena Ryan, Activities Sheffield
Co-ordinator
-
The
project provided the chance to develop a new area
of interest for after school clubs. I was pleased with the outcomes
and would certainly be willing to look at ways in which this might
be extended for / by us in the future. John Thompson, head
Teacher, Tinsley Junior School
Performance
East 2
We are now short listing groups to work with us on this next exciting
stage of the project. This will also include the added bonus of giving
some participants the opportunity to participate in the 2006 Colourscape
Festival at the end of June 2006.
The
aim is that we will be selecting participants from some of the groups
that we work with to become performers in a swamp circus community spectacular
show. Our aim is to work with selected young people to create a circus
spectacular with 50 100 young people and 5 professional circus
artists. Through this process we will be developing the confidence and
team working skills of participants and bringing together participants
of different ethnic backgrounds promoting cultural inclusion and understanding
Cost
We have funding confirmed which covers all of our administration
costs, approx 50% of our tutor fees. We also have additional funding
confirmed from the arts council for those groups wishing to be involved
in the Colourscape festival show, covering the costs of these sessions
(including tutor fees, rehearsal space and venue costs for these sessions).
We do however need to ask each group to make a contribution towards
the costs of running these sessions. Suggested rates are ;
£100
for day long sessions,
£75 for part or half day sessions.
If
you cannot afford these rates but would still like to be involved these
may be negotiable, although I hope you appreciate that these are already
massively subsidised rates and in order to reach as many young people
as possible we will be giving priority to groups who are able to meet
these contributions.
If you require any further information or to discuss options please
contact me ASAP we can only offer workshops at these rates to a limited
no of groups and we hope to finalise our list of groups involved shortly.
